(KFTK) – John Tamny, the editor of Real Clear Markets, has questions about colleges shutting down for the COVID-19 pandemic.
"It's not as though students will stop seeing one another," Tamny says about students not allowed back on campus, "they'll just stop seeing each other without class."
Tamny pointed out that he saw full restaurants in Washington DC, "it strikes me that they're not doing anything to distance anyone from anything."
Tamny points out that the government now, "suddenly government has a huge role," in the crisis.
"But every time a crisis comes up of health variety, or economics, suddenly Republicans think that central planning works," says Tamny. "Look, we know Democrats always buy into this idea that they need to guide us, economically, they need to guide us toward good healthcare outcomes, but so do Republicans."
Tamny says the markets are reacting towards the politicians taking actions during the crisis, "Coronavirus has been priced for weeks, markets were pricing that, they knew it existed and markets were at all time highs. Then the political class decides it's going to help us, it's going to devise plans for us, and markets correct. When are people going to tie the two together?"
