Partygoers heading out this holiday weekend will have lots of drink options to choose from. Of course there's beer, wine, and cocktails, but now the latest craze, an influx of THC beverages.
Blackstack Brewing's Murphy Johnson in St. Paul, MN says this is a great alternative for those who don't enjoy alcohol.
"There's a lot of people who just aren't drinking alcohol for health reasons, for personal reasons, for mental reasons and the fact that we're just finally getting to a place where it's legal," says Johnson. "I think a lot more people have been open to it for a really long time and now we're just seeing this pent up demand."
Johnson says there are already a lot of registered THC beverages in the state which has resulted in millions of dollars in sales.
"Last time I checked there was like 750 registered THC brands in the state," Johnson says. "I mean, who knows, down the road billions certainly isn't out of the question."
Despite this boom, beer sales have not been affected.
"It certainly hasn't detracted from beer sales. I think if anything, it's just being able to create a space where as many people as possible can enjoy themselves," Johnson said. "I think has really just behooves sales in general. We've seen an uptick, but we certainly haven't seen it negatively affecting any of the beer side.
Johnson believes this is just the beginning and is excited for the future.
