Avian Flu hitting Americans pockets as egg prices increase

Vance Crowe, President of Articulate Ventures, a boutique PR & strategy firm, joins the Mark Reardon Show to discuss agriculture, farming, and the tolls they haven taken during the pandemic.

“The thing people should be talking about right now, the reason egg prices are going up is because of Avian Flu. So wild birds get this flu, it’s relatively common, it may happen every few years. But then they migrate and then they leave their droppings and that interacts with free range birds and gets into flocks. You start having massive kill offs,” explained Crowe.

He shared a story from his friend, “Every day around noon I get a text message from one of my friends out in New York who raises eggs. And every single day, normally a huge jump in egg prices is three cents per dozen, but for two weeks she was like, ‘up 15 cents, up 20 cents, up 10 cents’."

“Today was the first day in over two weeks that the price didn’t go up, but we’ve already watched an appreciation of more than $1.50 to $2.00 per dozen. That doesn’t hit the store quite as quickly as it hits the wholesaler, but it’s definitely coming,” warned Crowe.
