KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman says the lengthy negotiations earlier this week between Major League Baseball's players and owners, "gave us false hope, Monday night into Tuesday morning, because they were meeting for almost 17-hours!"
Ackerman told the Marc Cox Morning Show that there seemed to be optimism after all of that time.
"You would think at that point that they would be close to agreeing at least on a few things, and they were. A 12-team post season, and a few other things that got them there, but they had three core economic issues that they couldn't get closer on," says Ackerman. The three included the Competitive Balance Tax, minimum salary, and the pre-arbitration player pool. "They just couldn't agree on money."
Ackerman says the meetings, "became contentious on Tuesday, because the players got a final offer, 'this is our best offer' from the owners, and rejected it and left."
The league quickly announced that the first two series of the season would be cancelled.
