NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Oscar-nominated actor James Cromwell superglued himself to the counter of a Starbucks in Midtown on Tuesday to protest the chain’s policy of charging extra for plant-based milk.
A video shared by PETA showed that the protest began inside the Broadway Starbucks near W. 40th St. just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
After the "Succession" and "Babe" star glued himself to the counter while wearing a "Free The Animals" t-shirt, he read a prepared statement denouncing the extra cost of Starbucks’ vegan milk and said it was harmful to the environment and discriminatory toward those who suffer from lactose intolerance.
“When will you stop raking in huge profits while customers, animals, and the environment suffer?” said Cromwell, 82, who was joined by members of PETA who shouted “When will you stop penalizing people for their ethnicities, their morals?”
After he finished reading his prepared statement, Cromwell and other activists began chanting, “Save the planet, save the cows. Stop the vegan upcharge now!”
Police officers responded to the scene, telling protestors that the Starbucks district manager wanted them vacated from the property.
About a half-hour after the protest began, Cromwell and John Di Leonardo, another activist who superglued himself to the counter unattached themselves.
It’s unclear if the activists are facing any charges.
A representative for Starbucks was not immediately available to comment on Tuesday morning’s protest.
