New law requires IL landlords to build EV charging stations

A new law in Illinois will require landlords to build electric vehicle charging stations in residential buildings if requested by tenants.

Senate Bill 40, approved earlier this earlier this year, will take effect on January 1, 2024.


"It's just going to add to housing costs which are already at decade-long highs, which are already unaffordable for many families," says Bryce Hill, Director of Fiscal and Economic Research at the Illinois Policy Institute.
