
GRAFTON, IL (KMOX) - Pointe du Hoc is where the D-Day Battle in World War II took place on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France.
Grafton Mayor Mike Morrow talked with KMOX's Maria Keena about the significance of this memorial. The Pointe du Hoc recreation will be in the Grafton visitors center.

Mayor Mike Morrow tells KMOX Pointe du Hoc, the D-Day battle of the climbing of the cliffs will be the center piece for the military memorial.

Morrow, an Army Veteran himself, visited Normandy three times with his wife for D-Day commemorations.
Vegetation has been cleared off the cliff site. Morrow says many people have stepped forward and are working free of charge. Money is already being collected, but the capital campaign starts Wednesday.
Mayor Morrow says it will be a life size representation of the U.S. Army Rangers climbing the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc and the rangers will be cast in bronze. The foundry manufacturing them is Carolina Bronze in South Carolina.
The memorial will cost 6-million-dollars and donations can be made at ascentmemorial.org
