Helmets First is a community-based nonprofit focused on preventing childhood head injuries through helmet access, safety education, and strong partnerships with local police departments.
Law enforcement officers are often the first to see the consequences of preventable bike injuries. Through these partnerships, officers help distribute free, properly fitted helmets, teach children and parents safe riding habits, and reinforce the importance of wearing a helmet — all while building trust and positive relationships with families in the community.
Helmets First programs include:
- Helmet distribution led by police and community volunteers
