Missouri GOP lawmakers want to stop St. Louis and Kansas City from defunding their police budgets. They’re asking Governor Mike Parson to call a special session to address the issue.
Missouri Representative Nick Schroer (R – Dist. 107) specifically called out St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones over a planned $4M cut to the city’s police budget.
Mayor Jones and Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas released a joint statement, part of which included, “Republican lawmakers on the outskirts of our communities calling for a special legislative session are offering no real solutions. Instead, they are advocating away the right of St. Louis and Kansas City residents to make decisions for our own communities.”
