A parent advocate, Ryan Cunningham, has rallied a group of parents in suing the Triad school district over mask mandates. A similar case was recently heard before an appeals court and that court made some requirements of the suit.
According to Illinois Appellate Court Fifth District, the lawsuit must include Governor JB Pritzker, The Illinois State Board of Education, and the State Superintendent of Schools. To comply, the case filings will be amended to list said groups as defendants.
This boldness has inspired parents from other school districts to join the suit as well. Cunningham says that parents from Collinsville and Highland have been added as plaintiffs. The suit acknowledges Governor Pritzker has the power to issue the mandates but ultimately lacks the authority to enforce them. Cunningham says there is a groundswell of support at the grassroots level and urges anyone who wants to get involved to go to speakforstudents.org or to visit their Facebook page.
