Missouri State Rep Jim Murphy is pushing-back on new St Louis City and St Louis County ordinances that require improvements made in parking lots to include charging stations for electric vehicles.
Murphy's new bill in the Missouri Legislature would require the governing bodies to foot the bill for the charging-station upgrades, not the owners of the property. St Louis County's ordinance requires 10% of spaces in the commercial lots be "Electric Vehicle Ready Spaces" and "2% have EV chargers" and be applied to "new constructions, major remodels, parking lot reconstruction and overlay projects, and changes in use or occupancy classification."
"This isn't about safety, this is about pushing a green agenda that just makes no sense," says Murphy, "we're going to destroy our small businesses and all just for this green deal, and I'm gonna tell ya, my bill would make them pay for it."
