The family of fallen Marine Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz is planning to celebrate the birthday of Jared with a pub-crawl later this month in his honor. Jared was to turn 21 on February 25, 2022.
Mark Schmitz, Jared's father, says it will be a "non-traditional" pub crawl, that bars and restaurants can help out when patrons, "order Jared a beer, order Jared a drink in general. Then if they use that verbage, if you will, then they donate that money into the non-profit," The Freedom 13.
Mark Schmitz tells Marc Cox that the family they are working to get the foundation in Jared's memory established, as The Freedom 13, "we had a choice of grieving for the rest of our lives, which of course we'll do, but we're not gonna sit around and make that our focal point. We're gonna turn this tragedy into something positive."
