A 13-year old is facing six felonies, including four counts of criminal vehicular operation, following a police pursuit and crash in North Minneapolis earlier this week that injured eight people.

Investigators say the boy who was driving the car was 12-years old, but has since turned 13.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey talked with WCCO's Chad Hartman about the case.

“My first emotion is just sadness,” said Frey. “You know, when I was 12 and 13 and 14, I would have been scared out of my mind to get behind the wheel of any car because I'd get in trouble, let alone steal one. We need to make sure that these kids have love and care and at the same time, we can't let them do this.”

Investigators say the boy was driving a stolen car that was also linked to multiple armed robberies earlier in the day. The chase ended when the stolen KIA crashed into another car and both plowed into a bus shelter at Penn Avenue and Olson Memorial Highway.

The driver of the second car and a pedestrian were hurt.

Five of the six juveniles inside the KIA were boys. All were apprehended and received hospital treatment for injuries. Every one of those injured in the crash are expected to survive.
