Now serving - a table for 2,000? Nicollet Mall was the site Thursday for a one of a kind dinner party.
Scott Mayer is the producer for Dinner Du Nord, which took place in downtown Minneapolis Thursday evening.
"To really promote our restaurant and hospitality community, and show people that coming downtown is a great idea," Mayer said about the event.
This may be the largest event of it's kind, too.
"We believe it's the longest dinner table in America until somebody proves us wrong," he said.
The idea was spawned from something similar.
"It was initially something that I had seen done elsewhere," Mayer explains. "This is a bit different. Ours is a bit more value-based, but I saw the concept somewhere else and really wanted to replicate it here in Minneapolis. And so we're seeing if it can work."
Work it did with the event featuring 29 restaurants and 12 food trucks selling out. And it was quite the production too.
"Everybody will be served at 6:00 and 2,000 people will be enjoying dinner together," says Mayer. "They could choose whatever restaurant they wanted to, and pick the menu that interested them."
All of the tickets were bought in advance, and ranged from $18 to $240. Part of the money is going to help out some of those in the industry.
"Proceeds go to help the House Foundation, which is an organization that helps restaurant workers with physical and mental challenges," he said.
