Authorities in South America recently reported finding an 800-year-old mummified corpse inside a food delivery bag.
The discovery was made in Puno, Peru, and the city’s Directorate of Culture released images that show the skeleton in the fetal position, lying in a red food delivery bag, where burgers and fries should be instead.
In a statement released by the directorate on Sunday, it shared that the “adult mummified male individual” was found to have a “relative chronology of 600 to 800 years old.”
The corpse was found by Peru National Police officers who were conducting a joint operation at the time of the discovery, according to the statement.
Under Peru’s national heritage laws, the body has become the property of the country.
Julio Cesar claims that the body belongs to him. He spoke with Noticias Sin Filtro Puno TV, a local media outlet in Peru, sharing more about the corpse, NBC News reported.
“It sleeps in my bedroom, with me. There’s my bed, the TV set, and next to it, there’s Juanita. I take care of it. It’s like, if you’ll pardon the expression, as if it were my spiritual girlfriend.” he told Puno TV, while identifying the body with the name he uses for it.
Since the discovery of the corpse, Cesar has been taken into custody.
After the body was taken into the possession of the Peruvian government, a scan was conducted to learn more about it, revealing that it was a male corpse.
The Peruvian Culture Ministry has since released a statement on the situation, urging its people to assist “in the defense and protection of our precious heritage, communicating to us any finding or attack on movable or immovable cultural heritage.”
