An investigation has been launched into the death of an Amazon delivery driver who was found dead with what are believed to be dog bite injuries, raising questions on whether or not he was killed by the animals found near the remains.
Police in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, were called at around 7 p.m. on Monday after an Amazon delivery truck was seen parked at a residential home for several hours.
When officers arrived to investigate the truck, they found its driver’s remains, along with a German shepherd and mastiff, behind a fence gate. The dogs and the remains were located near the truck.
The animals were reportedly being aggressive towards responding officers, so one of the deputies at the scene shot and injured one of the dogs in the yard before the two animals then ran into the home, according to local authorities.
Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers shared that the homeowners were not present when he arrived on the scene and that the dogs continued to be aggressive with him after he entered the house.
“They continued to be aggressive, and I had to kill them,” Childers said.

Childers shared that the driver’s remains and the deceased dogs were collected into evidence. He added that autopsies and necropsies would be performed within the coming days.
The sheriff’s office did not share the driver’s identity, and it is unclear what caused his death. However, Childers shared that the driver had suffered extensive injuries that appeared to be caused by dogs.
“We do not know the cause of death yet, but the Amazon driver did have a substantial amount of damage to his body very similar to that of canine bites,” the sheriff said.

Amazon has commented on the death of the driver.
“We’re deeply saddened by tonight’s tragic incident involving a member of our Amazon family and will be providing support to the team and the driver’s loved ones,” Amazon spokesperson Lisa Levandowski said. “We are assisting law enforcement in their investigation.”
