Diane Foley, founder and president of the James Foley Legacy Foundation, joined Marc & Kim (4/3/25) to discuss the organization's mission of honoring her son James Foley's legacy and advocating for Americans held hostage abroad.
Following James Foley's kidnapping and murder by ISIS in 2014, Foley launched the foundation to support hostage families, promote journalist safety, and push for policies that help secure the release of Americans held captive overseas. Since its founding, the organization has played a role in efforts that have helped bring home more than 150 American hostages.
During the conversation, Foley discussed the challenges families face when loved ones are taken hostage, the complexities of negotiating with terrorist organizations and hostile governments, and the growing risks facing Americans traveling or working abroad. She also highlighted ongoing concerns in regions including Syria, Iran, and Russia.
Foley encouraged listeners to support the foundation's work, watch the documentary Jim: The James Foley Story, and read American Mother, which chronicles her family's journey and pursuit of justice.
