Police officials in Mid-Michigan say reports of an active shooter at Bay City’s fireworks display Saturday night were unfounded.
Around 10:30 p.m. during Saturday’s fireworks show some people went running in a panic when someone in the crowd yelled “somebody has a gun,” according to a report from MLive.
Bay City Department of Public Safety officers were responding to a fight in the area near the carnival, according to the report.
BCDPS Director Caleb Rowell told MLive Sunday that “word of mouth spread” that there was a shooter and people “panicked.”
“Several of them ran out,” he said. Others went running because rain began pouring down, according to the report.
But police investigating at the scene found no evidence of gunfire.
“Please be advised, there is NO active threat at the Bay City fireworks festival,” officials said in a Facebook post late Saturday night.
