While he may have departed Fox News earlier this year, the media company is alleging that its former host Tucker Carlson breached his contract when he released the first episode of a show he is now hosting on Twitter, reports said.

According to Axios, Carlson’s lawyers received the warning in a letter from Fox News general counsel Bernard Gugar, in which he alleged Carlson was “in breach” of the contract he signed in November 2019 and amended in February 2021.

Carlson’s legal team released a statement on the letter, with attorney Bryan Freedman insisting that Fox News taking any legal action against his client would infringe on his First Amendment rights, NBC News reported.

“Fox defends its very existence on freedom of speech grounds,” Freedman said in the statement. “Now they want to take Tucker Carlson’s right to speak freely away from him because he took to social media to share his thoughts on current events.”

Carlson’s new show, released on Tuesday night, was around 10 minutes long, and featured the hot-topic host discussing the recent Ukraine dam that was destroyed.

Without providing evidence, Carlson claimed that the attack was perpetrated by Ukraine in the Russian-occupied territory.

The point contradicts United States intelligence officials, who alleged that Putin’s regime was behind the incident, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said the same.

Still, Twitter’s new owner didn’t seem to mind the take from Carlson, noting that having the host’s show on his platform “would be great” as he looks to have “shows from all parts of the political spectrum on this platform!”
