Izzy Gardon, Newsom’s communications director, confirmed to KCRA in Sacramento that there were major CEOS who got the phones, but did not disclose exactly who or how many got one.

“This was the governor's idea to connect more directly with business leaders in the state,” she told the outlet, adding that the feedback has been positive.

The phones, which have Newsom’s direct number programmed in, are being paid for by a nonprofit created to offset costs for ceremonial activities and travel.
