Former Missouri Senator Jim Talent talked about the importance of safe streets and neighborhoods to help revitalize communities during his weekly conversation with Marc Cox.
Talent remembered traveling to various communities in the 1990s and witnessing the work being done.
"One of the things they all told us, was, 'look this begins with streets that are safe and secure. If people aren't safe, you can't do any of the rest," said Talent.
Talent continued: "You can't get small business in, you can't help families because its not safe. People won't go there. So not only do you get the direct negative consequences of crime, people being killed and hurt and basically forced to barricade themselves in their houses, but you also short-circuit everything else you're trying to do."
Talent told Marc that he agrees that qualified-immunity needs to be addressed nationwide, "I think qualified-immunity should be reformed. I don't think it should be eliminated, but it should be reformed."
