Some people will do anything they can to get out of sticky situations, including one man in Colorado, who put all his effort into not being arrested by changing places with a dog in his passenger seat during a traffic stop, police shared.

The Springfield Police Department shared that an officer pulled over the man after he was observed speeding on Saturday night. During the stop, the officer observed him moving inside the car before getting out of the vehicle’s passenger side.

“The male party showed clear signs of intoxication,” the department wrote in a Facebook post.

When police approached the man, they said he claimed he wasn’t driving the vehicle, instead placing blame on his furry companion.

When they questioned him about his alcohol consumption, police say he fled on foot.

However, police shared that his attempted escape failed about 20 yards from the traffic stop, where officers subdued him and placed him in custody.

The man was taken to a local hospital to be checked out before being booked in Baca County Jail, the department shared.

Police shared he has been charged with “driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving while ability impaired, driving under suspension, speeding 20-24 over, and resisting arrest.”

As for the dog, the post said that it was “given to an acquaintance of the driver to care of while the party was in jail.”

While the investigation remains ongoing, the department did share that “the dog does not face any charges and was let go with just a warning.”
