A Northern Michigan man could be looking at prison time for stalking a county administrator via email.

Evan Baker of Prudenville – near Houghton Lake – was arraigned Monday in Roscommon County’s 82nd District Court on one count each of stalking and using a computer to commit a crime, Attorney General Dana Nessel announced.

Baker, 32, allegedly sent “hundreds of personal” emails to the Roscommon County Administrator/Controller over a several-year period. Officials say the emails were unrelated to her public role or duties.

On Aug. 14, 2023, the administrator sent a message to Baker instructing him to “cease all personal communications unrelated to her position,” according to Nessel’s office.

In response,Baker allegedly sent more than 50 emails that day alone.

Baker’s alleged harassing messages persisted up until last Friday, when he was arrested, according to the AG’s office.

“Local officials should be accessible to the public they serve, but when these communications channels are abused for malicious purposes, we must defend them from harassment and stalking,” Nessel said, per a press release. “Stalking such as this takes a very real toll on a victim and can easily escalate to threats upon their safety.”

Baker is being held at the Roscommon County Jail, with bond set at $50,000 cash/surety/10%, according to Nessel. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 7.

Authorities have not released any specific details about Baker’s alleged emails to the administrator.
