Almost half-a-million vehicles have been recalled by Nissan, after the car maker discovered that the emblem on the steering wheel could detach if the airbag is deployed in a crash and become a projectile.

The recall affects 463,472 vehicles worldwide, but most of them are in the United States, according to the recall posted by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Most of the affected vehicles are Frontier midsize pickups with the manufacture years 2008-2011. However, the recall also affects 2008-2011 Titan pickups and Pathfinder, Xterra, and Armada SUVs. Other models listed include 2008-2009 Quest minivans and some 11,000 spare parts on dealer shelves.

The issue stems from the driver’s airbag module, which Nissan says has the chance of wearing out substantially, which could allow for the posts of the emblems to crack.

If this happens and the airbag is deployed, the emblem and retainer components could detach, becoming a projectile and possibly causing injury.

So far, Nissan has only been made aware of at least four injuries stemming from the defective airbag assembly.

The automaker shared in the recall that there is no fix for the issue yet, but customers affected by the recall will receive an alert in the mail in April. Drivers can then expect to be notified again with a solution.

To check if your vehicle is affected by the recall, use the NHTSA’s recall VIN search tool in April.
