Plane crashes into car dealership, setting cars ablaze

A small plane crashed into a car dealership in southeastern Ohio, setting cars ablaze and killing both people on board.

The crash happened Tuesday morning at the Pioneer Buick GMC dealership in Marietta, about two hours southeast of Columbus near the state's border with West Virginia.

Marietta police told WBNS that the plane took off from John Glenn Columbus International Airport at 6:40 a.m. The crash happened in the dealership's parking lot about 35 minutes later.

Several cars were on fire and heavy smoke was billowing from the scene when first responders arrived, WBNS reported.

Multiple vehicles and buildings at the dealership were damaged in the crash, police said.

The plane involved was a 1974 Beechcraft King Air E90, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. It was heading to Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport in Parkersburg, West Virginia, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.

Both the pilot and a passenger were killed in the crash. The victims were identified as 45-year-old Eric S. Seevers and 49-year-old Timothy F. Gifford, WLWT reported.

No other injuries were reported.

Officials aren't sure what caused the plane to go down. The crash remains under investigation by several agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration and the the National Transportation Safety Board.
