PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Postal workers at post offices across the Philadelphia area joined a national call to action Thursday to show out against the Trump administration’s plans to privatize the U.S. Postal Service.

Congressman Brendan Boyle called it “inhumane” the way President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk are treating federal workers as they slash agencies.

“Hell no we’re not gonna let Elon Musk rip away our postal service from us,” he said. “We are not going to let him get his grubby hands on the postal service.”

Boyle was one of a few local officials to join postal workers and members of the American Postal Workers Union who rallied in Bustleton against Trump’s plans for the USPS.

Trump’s beef with the postal service started during his first administration as he noted it only cost the government money instead of making any. Now, it’s one of the many agencies seemingly on the chopping block as his administration looks to cut what it calls ‘bloat’ from the federal government.

More recently, instead of privatizing the agency, Trump has suggested moving it under the Commerce Department, putting it under the president’s control as part of the executive branch.

Vince Tarducci is with the American Postal Workers Union.

“This fight does not stop today, and must continue if we want to maintain a viable public post office,” he said.

Rallies were also held at post offices in Upper Darby, Media, Blue Bell, and Wilmington, Delaware.
