The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced the recall of batches of protein bars after foreign objects, including hair nets, were found inside them.
Doctors Scientific Organica voluntarily recalled a number of its Burn Boot Camp Afterburn Grass-Fed Whey Protein bars as an “abundance of caution” after receiving the reports, the recall said.
The protein bars are sold at retail locations run by the gym franchise Burn Boot Camp throughout the nation.
The recall was issued after several consumers contacted the company to report that they found what appeared to be disposable hairnets, shrink wrap, and parchment paper inside their protein snacks.
“Foodborne foreign objects that are flexible and not sharp may cause minor injuries such as transient choking or gastrointestinal system injury,” according to the FDA.
While there have been reports of foreign objects found, no illnesses have been reported at this time.
The only flavor recalled is the 60-gram Triple Chocolate Almond flavor, according to Doctors Scientific Organica.
The lot numbers affected are 181, 184, and 187. The recall says they can be found on the back of each protein bar package.
Those who have purchased the recalled protein bars are advised not to eat them. They should either return them to where they were purchased or throw them away, the company said.
