America's military is having a bit of a public relations problem. Normally, soldiers and sailors will tell others about what a great life you can have to serve in the military.
That's not happening like it used to.
New research from the Military Family Advisory Network says the number of people who recommend the military as a career path dropped 12 points to less than 63 percent. It used to be around 75 percent just two years ago.
"It is a difficult job and life, and the ‘benefits’ simply are not worth it," one Navy spouse said. "Especially since said benefits just keep dwindling and decreasing in quality the longer we are in. Military life not only affects the mental health of the service member but also that of their family. Additionally, I would not want anyone I care about, or even people I don’t care about, to be subjected to toxic work environments."
Most of the personnel say they go hungry, they don't make nearly enough money for their families. Three-quarters of people say they're in debt and almost 20 percent say they can't afford to feed their families on a military wage.
