As tropical storm winds blow near the New England coast Staurday, people in the town of Crowley, La., are dealing with the aftermath of a storm that rolled through that area last week.

There, the Crowley Police Department shared photos Sept. 8 of a massive Taco Bell sign that collapsed on the back end of a vehicle.

Police said one injury had been reported due to the storm. According to KATC, that person was Madyson Dailey’s mother, who was sitting in the backseat of the vehicle.

“She looked up and saw the sign wobbling and within seconds later in was in her backseat,” said her daughter. Dailey’s parents – with her father in the driver’s seat – were in the drive through line at the fast food restaurant when the sign crashed down, KATC said.

Shortly after the incident, Dailey’s mother called her and told her she was bleeding. At the time, she was on her way to pick up her siblings from school.

“It happened at the wrong time at the wrong person but thank god she doesn't have major injuries, just minor and she made it out alive,” Dailey told KATC.

Her mother went to a local hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

“EMTs were on [site] pretty quick,” Superintendent Scott Richard of Acadia Parish said, according to KLFY. “Emergency personnel were here very quickly. The individual was taken out of the car very carefully and miraculously she was not injured more than what her injuries were. As you can tell if you do some closeups of where the sign actually fell, no one else was injured because it’s a pretty big sign, very high sign. We’re just thankful nobody got seriously injured.”

This isn’t the first time a fast food sign has had a dangerous fall. In 2021, Audacy’s KCBS Radio in California reported that a large sign outside a Burger King in Richmond toppled over and crushed a minivan. None were injured in that incident.
