Following yesterday’s debate against former President and GOP nominee Donald Trump, Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris received an endorsement from pop star Taylor Swift.
Swift shared in a post on Instagram, which featured a picture of her holding one of her cats, and saying that she had watched the debate on Tuesday night.
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country,” Swift wrote.
The musician, who is one of the biggest stars in the world, went on to say that after watching the debate and learning what she could about the candidate, the vice president would receive her support.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift said.
Swift went on to praise Harris for her choice of Minnesota Gov. Walz as her running mate, as well as their stances on important issues.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades,” Swift wrote.
In her post, she also touched on a recent string of images created by artificial intelligence that were shared on social media by Donald Trump. The photos depicted Swift and her fans supporting him.
In the images, fans can be seen wearing T-shirts that read “Swifties for Trump,” while others depict a parody of the iconic “Uncle Sam” poster with Swift’s face and a tagline that says “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.”
Trump shared the photos on his Truth Social page, writing, “I accept!”
In her post on Tuesday, Swift said she had been made aware of the photos, which helped play a role in her endorsement of Harris as well.
“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift wrote. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
Swift closed by saying that she’s done her research, encouraging others to do the same. She also called herself a “childless cat lady,” alluding to remarks from Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance, who used the phrase to criticize Democrats.
“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first-time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story,” Swift wrote.
