St. Paul officials are releasing a teenage boy who was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting his 12-year-old brother over the weekend. They're releasing him without charges.
Markee Jones was shot and killed early Saturday morning at a home on St. Paul's north end. The home belongs to his aunt, Marilyn Hill. During a vigil on Sunday for Markee, family and friends called for the person who left a loaded gun in the house to be held responsible.
The Ramsey County Attorney's Office said there "is not sufficient evidence to proceed with a charging determination."
The attorney's office has returned the case to the St. Paul Police Department for further investigation.
Denisha Hill is the mother of the two boys, and said her older son has been struggling since his arrest, and that he needed to be with his family.
The 14-year-old was taken into custody Saturday morning after the 12-year-old was shot.
According to police reports, officers were called to the scene just before 5:00 a.m. Saturday on a report that a juvenile had been shot.
The boy was suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken by St. Paul Fire Department medics to Regions Hospital, where he later died.
