Former President Donald Trump has aimed his political sights at Republican Senator Mitch McConnell (Ky.), calling for other Republicans in Congress to replace him as minority leader.

Trump shared his displeasure with the Senator in a statement that was published in a story written by The Federalist.

In the statement, he accused McConnell of being a “pawn for the Democrats” and claimed that his wife, Elaine Chao had ties to China.

“Mitch McConnell is not an Opposition Leader, he is a pawn for the Democrats to get whatever they want,” Trump said in his statement. “He is afraid of them, and will not do what has to be done. A new Republican Leader in the Senate should be picked immediately!”

McConnell has long held his position as the leader of the Republicans in the Senate, and following the events of Jan. 6, 2021, he criticized Trump for his role in the Capitol riots. Trump responded by dubbing him “Old Crow.”

This also isn’t the first time he has called for Republicans to choose a new Senate leader, doing so last year too. He said the decision would help boost the party’s chance of regaining control of Congress in 2022, adding that “McConnell has not done a great job.”

But last weekend, McConnell again took aim at Trump and the Republicans running for Senate in the 2022 midterms, which were hand-picked by the former president, saying he was worried about the “candidate quality.”

Trump, in his statement, referred to Chao, who served as his Transportation Secretary until Jan.7, 2021, as McConnell’s “crazy wife,” saying she is “Coco.”

McConnell has not responded to the comments made by Trump.
