“Do the people of this once great nation even have a choice to protest the potential doom of the United States of America?” asked former President Donald Trump in an all-caps Truth Social post Wednesday morning.
In the post, Trump – who has been indicted twice this year and found guilty of sexual assault – complained about “prosecutorial misconduct” as well as crime, inflation, the economy, immigration, current President Joe Biden and continued unfounded claims of election fraud. He ended it with a plug for his 2024 presidential campaign.
While “Make America Great Again” has long been a slogan for Trump, it seems that Americans are feeling a bit gloomy about the direction of the country lately. According to Echelon Insights poll results released this week, 67% of respondents believe the nation is on the wrong track. This percentage was a bit higher (68%) in battleground states.
Overall, 1,020 registered voters from across the country were polled from June 26 to June 29. For most of the respondents, cost of living was the top issue they believed is facing the country today, followed by jobs and the economy.
Most of the voters (57%) also said they had an unfavorable opinion of Trump. However, Trump is still in a strong lead among the GOP primary candidates, according to FiveThirtyEight.
“Ron DeSanctimonious is getting absolutely ‘demolished’ for yesterday’s performance in New Hampshire. No crowds, no enthusiasm, no interest,” said Trump in another Wednesday post bashing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who often ranks second in GOP polls. “His Campaign is in total disarray. He’s hurting himself very badly for 2028. See, loyalty does matter with Patriots!”
At the same time, FiveThirtyEight data indicated Trump’s overall unfavorable rating was close to 58%. A slightly smaller percentage of voters (55%) found Biden unfavorable per the Echelon results, which was mirrored by the 54.4% percentage reported Wednesday by the FiveThirtyEight.
Between the two men, slightly more respondents said they would prefer to vote for Biden (45%) compared to Trump (44%). Biden also appears to be the frontrunner for his party, but Echelon poll results show that a majority of respondents (59%) disapprove of the way he has handled the economy.
The president addressed some economic concerns Wednesday as well on social media.
“Every American willing to work hard should be able to get a job no matter where they are and keep their roots where they grew up. That’s Bidenomics,” he said in a tweet.
