Parents of Uvalde CISD students want the district to suspend its entire police department. They have been holding vigils and camping outside district headquarters.
One of the officers hired by Uvalde CISD was a Department of Public Safety trooper and responded the day of the shooting. CNN reports Crimson Elizondo is one of seven DPS troopers being investigated for their role in the response to the shooting.
Elizondo resigned from DPS this summer and is now listed as an officer with Uvalde CISD.
Brett Cross, who says his son was among those killed May 24, recorded a meeting he had with Superintendent Hal Harrell.
"I had to have a funeral for my son," Cross told Harrell. "You don't come back from that. My son is dead because of the inactions of your school district, of the city, of all the police involved."
Cross asked Harrell to suspend all district police officers while separate investigations are conducted by DPS, the Texas House Robb Elementary Committee, U.S. Department of Justice and Uvalde County district attorney.
"We are doing the investigation, but I need those officers just like the city needs their officers, the sheriff's department needs their officers," Harrell said.
Families of victims have formed an organization called LivesRobbed.
"We are disgusted and angry at Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District's (UCISD) decision to hire Officer Crimson Elizondo. Her hiring puts into question the credibility and thoroughness of UCISD's HR and vetting practices. And it confirms what we have been saying all along: UCISD has not and is not in the business of ensuring the safety of our children at school," the organization wrote in a statement.
Elizondo has not responded.
