A West Virginia mom has been arrested in Pennsylvania after her 3-year-old wandered off and was hit by a car, according to police.
The incident happened over the weekend in Jefferson Hills, just south of Pittsburgh, where Shawnae Galberth is accused of leaving her 3- and 4-year-old children alone in a room at the Econo Lodge motel while she and a third child went to a convenience store.
Police say both children left the room when their mother was gone, and were walking along State Route 51 when the 3-year-old was hit by a car.
The child was taken to Children's Hospital in critical condition.
The driver involved remained at scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Galberth was arrested while walking back to the motel and her other two children were turned over to Child Protective Services, authorities say.
Galberth allegedly told police the children were sleeping, so she took her third child and walked to a convenience store to get food for the next morning.
Galberth is facing two counts of endangering the welfare of children.
