In Anchorage, Alaska this spring, a moose walked through an automatic sliding door and into a hospital building before starting to chow down on office plants.
Don’t worry, they were real plants… and staff was ultimately able to direct the moose back outdoors. Still, the team at “Something Offbeat” wanted to know how often moose (yes, that’s the plural of moose) end up in more human dominated spaces.
“I wouldn’t say that it's common for a moose to walk into a hospital, no,” said Lily Grbavach, the director of education for the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. “But it’s also not unheard of. We’ve had moose in other buildings this year. A moose walked into a movie theater down south… but, it’s not like I’m double-checking the entryway every time before I walk into a hospital for moose.”
Grbavach helped explain just how common it is for a human to cross paths with a moose. She also filled us in on what to do if we happen to run into the giant animals.
