With Illinois' primaries approaching the Republican gubernatorial race has been heating up. One candidate, Darren Bailey, has been accused of numerous things including voting for Joe Biden and raising taxes by over 80%. Bailey joined us on the show to set the record straight on these allegations and to make his case to be the Republican nominee for governor of Illinois.
One ad accuses Bailey of voting for Joe Biden, even playing audio of the State Senator purportedly saying as much. "I have never, ever supported a democrat. I want to make sure that you understand I was with President Trump in the middle of December and I was with him this past Wednesday," said Bailey.
He went on to explain that in 2008, Rush Limbaugh launched "Operation Chaos" in an attempt to derail Barrack Obama's campaign. The idea was to have Republicans vote in the Democrat primary for someone other than Obama. Bailey participated in that operation and that is where that audio originated.
Another accusation is that Bailey voted to raise taxes by over 80%. Bailey says that claim is made from when he served on a school board. While serving on that board, Bailey voted for small incremental increases to fund the school which amounted to about $5 per household. "But here's where the 81% again, here's where the twisted lies come. You take the 14 years that we actually asked for the levee extension and divide that by the 17 years that I served on the board. Guess what you get, you get 81.6%.," said Bailey.
Attack ads aside, Bailey is confident that his campaign will win the primary and ultimately unseat JB Pritzker. His goal, should he win the election is to return the power to the people of Illinois. You can hear the full interview on the podcast, or by listening to the audio above.
