#Bottomline: Jeff Smith says Biden spending-plan will get 'figured out in the next few weeks'

Former Missouri State Senator and Executive Director of the Missouri Workforce Housing Association, Jeff Smith joined Marc for the weekly #BottomLine segment.

As President Joe Biden's Build Back Better spending plan makes its way through Congress, Smith expects a deal will finally get made involving the holdout Democrat Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin.

"They're getting closer, and I think the left-wing of the party is kind of realizing that, 'hey, like nothing we're trying is really moving Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema much.' So the negotiations have come down to people saying, 'hey, its going to be $2.5-trillion or bust' to now we're just under $2-trillion and I think they'll probably get something figured out in the next few weeks."

Marc says the size of the plan has been a, "head-fake all along, just to get some of these programs installed, because they're going to be really hard to get rid of once they're in place."

"People tend to like a lot of things the government does once they're in place. Once we did Social Security, which was a huge fight in 1935, people said, 'Hey, its kind of nice to have retirement security.' When we did Medicare in 1965, some conservatives fought it at the start, but they realized, 'Hey, a lot of people will like it when seniors have health security," reminds Smith.
