Effort to eliminate Missouri personal property tax fails to advance

An effort to eliminate Missouri’s personal property tax failed to advance after hours of debate in the Senate on Monday.

The measure would cost local governments around $1.4 billion in revenue.

Senator Bill Eigel said the reduction would be softened by phasing out the tax over time. A compromise failed to win enough support after eight Republicans voted “no”.

A source close to the show provided the following list of GOP Senators who opposed the effort:

Lincoln Hough (R - Dist. 30)

Jeanie Riddle (R - Dist. 10)

Mike Cierpiot (R – Dist. 8)

Justin Brown (R – Dist. 16)

Jason Bean (R – Dist. 25)

Karla Eglinger (R – Dist. 33)

Elaine Gannon (R – Dist. 3)

Sandy Crawford (R – Dist. 28)
