Missouri finds itself nearing the end of another legislative session, and every year there are things Missourians would like to see pushed through the legislature. House Bill 2118 relates to the use of self-defense and is ready for debate.
“Right now we’ve got the Stand Your Ground law in Missouri,” says Alex Salsman of the Missouri Firearm Coalition. “But we all saw what happened to Mark and Patty McCloskey, so we took a look at it and we saw some different ways we can strengthen our Stand Your Ground law.”
As of right now, The Stand Your Ground law can only be used on appeal after you’ve been convicted, and Salsman and other 2nd Amendment supporters want it to be an upfront consideration for future situations like the McCloskey's.
But what’s keeping Missouri legislators from getting the Self-Defense Legislation through? According to Salsman, it isn’t necessarily Missouri Democrats.
“There aren’t enough Democrats to matter in Missouri,” Salsman says. “It’s Republicans that we fight to get all the good gun control passed.”
Alex Salsman joins the Marc Cox Morning Show with an update on the state of gun control in Missouri.
