At this moment, the country is so divided that whatever the outcome of an election, the losing side feels cheated. Therefore, confidence in elections must be restored. Director of the Center for Election Integrity, Hogan Gidley argues that passing election integrity laws will help to remedy this situation.
"We need transparency," Gidley says.
Gidley states the Constitution gives states the power to regulate their elections. Therefore, the battle is in the state legislatures to get these laws passed. Gidley says that even one illegally cast vote is too many. He argues that in addition to passing new legislation, states must enforce their current legislation.
