A Republican senator is considering sponsoring a bill that would require cognitive mental examinations to be part of the President’s annual physical exam.
Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas made no attempt to hide exactly why he feels this bill is necessary when talking with Fox News Sunday.
“I think we’re all concerned for President Biden’s mental health,” Marshall said. “I think if you compare today’s films from some of his films even a year ago, you see a deterioration in his mental capacity. Maybe we need to be proactive.”
If he signs on, Marshall would join Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio in bringing the bill to Congress.
Marshall made the announcement when he was asked by Fox News host Maria Bartiromo for his medical opinion on whether Biden’s cognitive wellness could be considered a threat to national security. Marshall’s non-governmental profession is obstetrician, a doctor specializing in women’s reproductive health.
Bartiromo’s query comes on the heels of a letter sent to Biden last week by 38 Republican members of the House of Representatives that suggested he may be in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.
While the 79-year-old Biden is the oldest President to take office, he is still younger than six current members of the U.S. Senate and the same age as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
