How the John Strauss Case Shows a Connection Between Far-Left Ideology And Anti-Semitism

Executive Director of Speech First and host of the Well Said Podcast, Cherise Trump discusses the double standard when it comes to supporting Israel v. support for Hamas and how campuses have become far-left echo chambers.

Cherise brought up the origin of the problem by saying "Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I think this comes back to the problem where, you know, this generation, especially that's in college right now, most of them get their sole source of news and information is TikTok or other social media platforms. And this is something that, yeah, and we need to, I was actually trying to look up the actual percentage, but I know it's very high. And there's been a number of studies on this because people are concerned about it."

She added "On both sides of the aisle, this is concerning because obviously, videos on TikTok can be edited, can be modified. Often times, they're just random exaggerations of incidents, but this is where people are getting most of their information from. And so that should be concerning because what happened in this situation at USC with Professor Strauss was he actually was just walking by and the clip that went around on TikTok was not the full clip of what he said. He's, like you said, he mentioned that Hamas terrorists should all be killed, that terrorists should be killed. And they clipped it, cut it completely and says that you should all be killed. And that's basically how they cut it and put it in TikTok. And so, and the sad thing is the university administrators were again, using their sole source of information was from a TikTok video."

She is of course referring to the Professor John Strauss from the University of South Carolina, who was suspended and barred from Campus after he confronted pro-Hamas protesters at his campus.

Strauss stated in an interview that "Every one of them referred, of course, to Hamas. Then that later was changed in the video that was released publicly, that was heavily doctored to Palestinians should be murdered. And that's not what I said at all. Videos that were taken by Jewish students there, they showed the truth."

She stated that the woke agenda shows that "You're either in this group or you're in the other group. And for those who are in the oppressed group as victims, they get what's, you know, we refer to as identarian deference, which means essentially all the situations are deferred to them because they're the victims. They get to determine, they get to set the terms and determine like what the experiences are because they lived it. And the oppressors don't get to set the stage at all. They don't get to make their arguments. They are the bad guys and any, any means enacted against them justify all the ends, alter old ends justify the means that are enacted against them. So like terrorist activity, for example, violence, shutting down speech, that's all justified because they are their oppressors."
