Illinois committee ends Gov. Pritzker's school mask mandates

Illinois' Joint Committee on Administrative Rules voted 9-0 against extending Governor Pritzker's emergency rule that mandated masks in Illinois schools. This vote means that the decision to require masking in schools now falls to the individual school district. Rep. Amy Elik of the 111th district in IL says that the local school district is the proper place for this type of decision and not the Governor. School boards are more accountable to their local constituency.

"Politics can be frustrating and you want to shut it all out, but when you dig into issues you learn about both sides and that allows you to discuss with others," Says Elik.

Elik praises all of those who got involved and made their voices heard. She emphasizes that masking is a personal decision and that we should respect each other's decisions. You can find Elik's full interview in the podcast or by listening to the audio above.
