Judge strikes down Illinois school mask mandate

Sangamon County Judge Raylene Grischow dealt a blow to the Pritzker Administration by striking down the Governor's executive order that mandated wearing masks in Illinois schools. Judge Grischow's ruling also applied to other mandates issued by Governor Pritzker. Both attorney Tom DeVore and Ryan Cunningham of Speak for Students were pleased with the judge's decision.

"As parents, we want to have the choice of what is best for our children. We aren’t here to co-parent with the government," said Cunningham.

Both men stressed that the judge's ruling doesn't ban masks, rather it gives parents the option of masking their child or not. Though the ruling was not granted class certification many schools in Illinois have adopted mask optional policies.
