OPINION: Liz Cheney will be back and worse than ever

Like a horror movie, you were driving along and something jumped out in your periphery- barely missing your car. In the rearview mirror, you see her standing there, looking right back at you. Phew, she's gone. No catching you now. But the minute you put your eyes back on the road, there she is again, now right in front of the car!!!

It's Liz Cheney, and you're at the part where you're watching her become smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror.  She'll disappear for a while now, but look out for what comes next.  It's more important than a book deal, or even running for the Republican nomination, which she is kidding herself if she's going to try.

It won't be that.  It will be much worse.

In her concession speech, she had a couple key lines.

"This primary election is OVER.  But now the real work begins," Cheney said in her prepared remarks.

Concession speeches are only important in the sense that they are meticulously crafted, unlike interviews.

Savannah Guthrie, on the Today Show, forced her to tip her hand further.

Guthrie:  "Are you thinking about running for president?"
Cheney:  "That's a decision I'm going to make in the coming months Savannah, I'm not going to make any announcements here this morning.  But it something I'm thinking about."

She went on, "I will be doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office."

And that's the line that should scare Trump supporters.  Not because Liz Cheney can win.  But because she's going to have the support of the entire mainstream media apparatus if she decides to run.  She'll have millions of Democrat dollars thrown at her.  Not because she's going to run as a Republican, but so that she'll run as an Independent.

They're going to view her as a Ralph Nader, picking off just a couple of percentage points from the Republican side. She'll view herself this way, too, hoping that she can glean just enough from the swing states to keep a Democrat in the White House. The money will be there, the media will be there, and Liz Cheney will too because her obsession has become, "doing whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office."
