Does the face of Donald Trump deserve to grace U.S. currency?
Some Republicans believe it does, and they’re busy about the work of spending taxpayer dollars to try and make that vision a reality, among other honors they’re looking to bestow upon the former President, convicted felon, and 2024 GOP nominee for the White House.
The U.S. House of Representatives currently has multiple resolutions making their way to the floor that would immortalize Trump’s name, including a bill by Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona that is looking to revive printing of $500 bills, this time with Trump’s face on them.
The last time $500 bills were printed was 79 years ago. Back then, assassinated President William McKinley graced the currency.
There are also bills recommending giving Trump the Congressional gold medal and naming an airport after him, but some are skeptical about the reasons behind these resolutions.
“They’re all trying to curry favor from the former president,” Fred Upton, a Republican and former Michigan representative to the House told USA Today. “They want to be recognized by him.”
As for a response from the Democrats, they’ve put forward their own bill, offering to put Trump’s name on the Miami Federal Correctional Institution.
