Todd Piro, host of Fox and Friends First, joins to look at the Republican debate and how Trump plans on doing his own event. The August 23rd debate will be aired on Fox News.
The planned speaker are Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott, Asa Hutchington, and Vivek Ramaswamy. Chris Christie is expected to attend as well.
Todd, on the idea of Trump potentially not doing the debate and just hosting his own event, said "I'm not saying this just because I work at the place where the event is happening. I say this just realistically. I don't think it's a good move to get the on the fence person who's going to be tuning into this debate because they hate Biden. You still need to get that person because that's the person that's going to win .... So I think going off to fill in the blank random like cable outlet or podcast outlet to do your own debate on August 23, You're not going to get that person who could sway the election. You know who you're going to get? You're going to get the Trump voter who's going to vote for you even if you're literally behind bars, right? And so you don't need to get that person."
One person who probably won't have a chance is Former VP Mike Pence, Todd said "I'm not trying to be mean to Mike Pence, lovely guy, but I'm just talking in terms of, like, sheer dollars and cents, X's and O's. Do you know anybody who's clamoring for Pence right now?"
On Chris Christie, he added "What is this guy doing wasting everybody's time? I mean, it's amazing to me. Here's the problem. I know people who they could be, the fact that they're from Jersey, but they're like, I see Chris Christie having a possibility. I'm like, Are you serious? I know Christie. I've been to a restaurant with Chris Christie at the same time. That's how close we are. But look, I know Christie. I don't see his lane, but some people do, and I think that's the issue. Whereas with regard to Pence, like you mentioned, I don't know one person who sees the Mike Pence lane."
