According to Daniel Kochis, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine dates back to 2014. Ukraine was making efforts to garner closer relationships with Western countries. Because of these efforts, Russia invaded Ukraine. This conflict has steadily grown since then. Now Russia has troops on three sides of Ukraine. This latest aggression has many wondering what has emboldened Putin.
"This is a result of the Biden administration’s weakness," says Kochis, a senior policy analyst in European Affairs in the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom.
Kochis says the administration allowing the completion of Russia's pipeline and the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan has convinced Russia they have an opening. The growing tensions have many concerned that U.S. Troops may deploy to Ukraine. You can find Kochis' thoughts on that plus more on the podcast or in the audio above.
