State Representative Amy Elik said if you would have asked her two days ago if the schools or if anything in the state of Illinois would open, she would have said, "that depends on the governor."
Late Wednesday night Elik got an email from the governor's office saying that Madison County would be moving to phase 4.
Being welcomed back to phase 4 is a sweet, sweet victory for the state, although it is the last region to make that move.
"I would like to believe it was because of the pressure or that he listened to the downstate lawmakers," she said. She is not really sure if that is true though.
State Representative Amy Elik said the party is cautiously optimistic about the new speaker Chris Welch, who replaced Mike Madigan, and how the state legislature will be working moving forward.
